A cozy and indulgent French toast casserole that combines soft bread, creamy custard, and spices, perfect for brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of sturdy bread (challah or brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Tear the bread into bite-sized pieces and place in a greased baking dish.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, allowing it to soak.
  4. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) the next day.
  6. Bake the casserole for 30 to 40 minutes until puffed and golden.
