A comforting make-ahead casserole infused with warm notes of cinnamon and vanilla, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices stale bread, cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (or a dairy substitute)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Maple syrup and powdered sugar for serving
  • Fresh berries or sliced bananas for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cut the bread into cubes and layer it in a baking dish.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Pour the custard over the bread, ensuring each piece is adequately soaked.
  4. Cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Preheat the oven and bake the casserole until the top is golden and the center is set, about 45 minutes.
  6. Serve warm with maple syrup and garnishes.

Notes

Allow the casserole to sit overnight for best flavor. If browning too quickly, loosely cover with foil while baking.
